Wags & Whiskers

One stop shop-n-groom on Nashville’s east side

If you live in the dog-friendly utopia that is East Nashville, then you’re likely already familiar with its coolest canine hangout. However, if you’re from across the river, you may not know about this hidden jewel—and I mean that literally, as it’s tucked away amid a charming setting along the backside of 1008 Forrest Avenue. Trust me: it’s worth a venture to the east side with your best pooch pal.

Owned by Amanda Beaty, Wags & Whiskers offers dog and cat lovers one-stop shopping for everything from food, treats and supplements to travel gear and toys. “Our main focus is holistic food and treats for dogs and cats along with a variety of fun and unique products,” says Beaty. “We only bring in products that we believe in, can stand behind and would use with our own canine and feline family members.”

Keeping those high standards in mind, Beaty strives to offer a wide selection of products so that there is something for everyone. “Whether you are looking for an affordable food, novel ingredients or a guaranteed tough toy, we can fill the need,” she says.

She adds that, even though they are a small independent retailer, Wags & Whiskers is committed to keeping prices low in order to make high-quality products available to everyone. “We want every dog and cat to have the opportunity to enjoy a quality diet and great health. We will work with customers to make sure that not only do we find the right fit for their pet’s nutritional needs, but also for their budget.” Their holistic food line includes Orijen, Dogswell, Innova, Evo, HealthWise, Lotus and others.

2Their great product line includes wholesome treats such as Zuke’s Z-Ridge (pictured) and locally created Two Good Dogs Granola Barks, as well as great Kurgo travel gear (as seen on page 9) and so much more.

While the shop’s retail side is reason enough to stop in, they do you one better by offering three self serve dog wash stations. You only have to hunch over a bathtub soaked in pet shampoo once to learn that there must be an easier way to groom your pooch pal. Wags & Whiskers makes it easy indeed with walk-up ramps to waist-high tubs, which means no more aching back, no mess to clean and a much happier, calmer experience for both you and your dog. What’s more, the shop provides everything you need. Says Beaty, “We provide natural shampoos, towels, aprons, dryers and herbal conditioning sprays. We work to be hands on and help customers get settled in so they have an easy and fun bathing experience.”

And if you think it’s a job that must be highly rewarding, you’d be right. “What I love most about owning Wags and Whiskers is having the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of pets and their people,” she says.

Beaty’s passion is evident in every corner of her shop. But don’t take my word for it. Go see for yourself.
